Board Member and Secretary General of UJMASAF

Ms. Gloria Hombakazi Khoza is a highly experienced Mine Survey professional,academic, and researcher with more than 17 years of experience in the mining industry. She began her professional career in 2007 at Gold Fields, now SibanyeStillwater, where she worked as a Surveyor until January 2021. In 2025, she rejoined Gold Fields South Deep as a Surveyor, continuing her contribution to one of South Africa’s leading gold mining operations.


Ms. Khoza has built a strong academic and professional foundation throughout her career. She obtained the Advanced Valuation Certificate from the Chamber of Mines in 2011 and the Advanced Mine Survey Certificate from the Chamber of Mines in 2012. She graduated from the University of Johannesburg in 2018 with a BTech in Mineral Resources Management and, in 2025, obtained a Master of Sustainable Mining degree. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Mine Surveying at the University of Johannesburg.

Her research interests focus on Mine Surveying, Mine Measurement, and Survey Equipment, with a particular interest in advancing knowledge and innovation within the field of Mining Engineering (Mine Survey). In addition to her industry experience, Ms. Khoza has contributed to academia as a Junior Lecturer at the University of South Africa (UNISA) and as a Lecturer at the University of Johannesburg. She is passionate about teaching and learning, supporting students from diverse backgrounds, and contributing to the advancement of knowledge that drives growth and meaningful societal development.

Ms. Khoza possesses extensive knowledge of mining economics, mine planning, health and safety, mineral resource management, and surveying practices. Her career reflects a commitment to professional excellence, teamwork, leadership, and continuous learning.


She is a Senior Associate Member of the Institute of Mine Surveyors of Southern Africa (IMSSA) and remains dedicated to the development of future mining professionals through mentorship, education, and industry engagement.
